Early Days, Endless Possibilities
nown as the "Gangotri of IndianOil," Guwahati Renery
Kholds the distinction of being the rst public sector renery in
the country. It was dedicated to the nation by India’s rst Prime
Minister on January 1, 1962, as a new year's gift.
Originally constructed to process Upper Assam crude oil
delivered via an Oil India Ltd (OIL) pipeline from Naharkatiya,
Assam, the renery has demonstrated remarkable adaptability
to evolving supply dynamics. Since 2017, Guwahati Renery has
incorporated the processing of low-sulphur imported crude,
sourced from Barauni Renery through both rakes and pipelines.
Initially set up with a capacity of 0.75 MMTPA, the renery has
recently expanded its capacity from 1 MMTPA to 1.2 MMTPA.
Situated in Noonmati, the renery is conveniently located near
popular tourist destinations such as Kamakhya Temple, Pobitora
Gifted to the nation as a new year’s gift on January 01, 1962
Wildlife Sanctuary, Cherrapunjee, and Kaziranga National Park,
by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India
making it a signicant landmark in the region.
