Barauni Refinery, Technology with Ecology at Heart
Nurturing Natural Wealth
True to its motto "In harmony with nature," Barauni Renery is
dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability.
Sustainability initiatives include a 100-kW oating solar pond
and advanced Efuent and Biological Treatment Plants (ETP/BTP)
that ensure 100% reuse of treated efuent water. A Reverse
Osmosis (RO) plant, commissioned in 2018, reduces freshwater
consumption by 100 m³/hr, and 21 rainwater harvesting
projects further decrease freshwater intake.
The renery’s Ecological Park, spanning 7.58 acres, showcases
a harmonious blend of industry and nature. The park, created
using renery waste and scrap materials, attracts hundreds of
migratory birds each winter and hosts around 100 species of
local and migratory birds year-round. The park is also home to a
variety of plants, animals, and notable trees, including rare
medicinal species like Rauvola Serpentina.

Recognized in biodiversity strategies for Bihar and Jharkhand
and mentioned by renowned bird watchers in various books, the
Ecological Park symbolizes Barauni Renery's commitment to
preserving the environment for future generations.

The renery commissioned a 1.0 MW grid-interactive Solar
PV system in 2016 and an additional 1.0 MW Ground
Mounted Solar Park in 2017, together generating 2.7 million
units of green energy annually and mitigating 2,435 tonnes
of CO emissions. The renery also maintains a green belt

area of 125.99 acres, covering 14.19% of its land.
